Position Description
THE DEPARTMENT
The Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE) develops and implements citywide environmental policies and programs that propel our city toward a sustainable, equitable, and carbon neutral future. THE JOB
OSE is recruiting a new Senior Finance Analyst to join our team and support our cutting-edge work. We are looking for a combination of strong budget tracking and reporting skills and the motivation and ability to work well with internal and external partners who have varying levels of technical expertise in finance. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to work with the Finance Manager to continually improve systems and work processes for an organization as it grows rapidly.
Your work will include:
Budget monitoring and reporting – of the City funded contract and program budget, oversight for grants management and reporting as well as accounts payable activities, creating financial/budget compliance tracking tools and monitoring systems, procedures, and processes, noting and addressing budget variances with staff, and generating a variety of expenditure reports.
Administration for invoices and consultant contracts – providing centralized support for OSE staff to ensure invoices are paid promptly, contracts are created correctly and budget and financial guidelines are followed. Serve as a liaison between OSE and the City’s Finance & Administrative Services Department, who provides centralized accounting services.
Budget system development and maintenance – ensuring that financial policies and processes are researched and evaluated for areas of improvement, documented, and communicated to staff, and supporting OSE with preparation of budgets, grants, proposals, and contracts and interpretation and application of budget and financial guidelines.

- Excel, Access, and PeopleSoft skills, Power BI skills are a bonus
- Worked with large data sets and pivot tables
- Public finance and contract system experience, such as MasterWorks and PeopleSoft
- Created projections and forecasts
- Compared budgets to actual spending and addressed variances
- Ensured accounts payable and invoices are accurate and reflected the correct accounting coding
- Identified errors and managed corrective action in a personable and solutions-oriented way

Qualifications
In addition to the skills and experience listed above, this job requires the following (or a combination of training, experience, or education that provides the skills needed to perform the job):
Five years of professional experience in budget management, financial analysis, accounting, or related work
Or
Four years of professional experience in budget management, financial analysis, accounting, or related work and an associate degree in business or public administration, finance, accounting, or a related field
or
Three years of professional experience in budget management, financial analysis, accounting, or related work and a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, finance, accounting, or a related field
Additional Information
This position is classified as a Finance Analyst, Senior. The salary range for this classification is $45.68 - $53.20.
Since November 1, 2022, City employees work in the office two days a week.
